Marlene Elizaldo, MFT
Marlene is a registered Marriage and Family Therapy intern, and recently completed her clinical hours for her MFT license. She is also now in the process of pursuing a psychology license. Marlene received her B.A. in Behavioral Science and Sociology, with minor in Psychology, from San Jose State University, where she received the Dean’s Scholar honors two consecutive years, and graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors.
She earned her M.A. from Alliant International University in Marital and Family Therapy. Marlene is continuing her education in Alliant’s Doctor of Psychology program for Couple and Family Therapy. Marlene is currently working on her dissertation, which focuses on autism and the family, and the neurologically-typical child's experience of the parent-child relationship in the context of having a sibling diagnosed with autism. Marlene also teaches a therapy techniques lab for the Couple and Family Therapy master’s program at Alliant.
Marlene's clinical interests include families affected by Autism, parent/child relationships, adolescents, and transition-age youth in residential treatment. Her research interests include child/adolescent stress factors, parent-child relationships, and the impact of Autism on different relationships in the family. Marlene has experience working with children and their families in various capacities, including teaching in an after-school program, working in youth residential treatment, delivering behavior therapy (ABA) services to children with Autism, and providing psychotherapy services to children and their families. Marlene also continues to work with young adults and couples.
Marlene's future professional endeavors include continuing to work with children, teenagers, and young adults; researching the relationship dynamics in families affected by autism; and working with individuals with autism by incorporating behavior therapy and also supporting the socio-emotional development. Marlene would also like to become a clinical supervisor and teach at the graduate level.
